Snowy Birthday Wishes Granted!

I can hardly believe that Katherine is four already! We did the official celebration a week early so that Granny Mary and Poppa Royal would be here for the festivities. It was a very fun family evening. We went to the movies to see Tangled and almost had the entire movie theater to ourselves. After the movies we had dinner at Applebee's, and cake and gifts at home. She LOVED every minute of it.

The really special part happened on her birthday (Monday, January 10th). She spent 3 weeks prior to her birthday telling us all how it was going to snow on her birthday. She was quite insistent that it was and that was just that. Sure enough when the winter storm finally came into the forecast it was set at 100% chance of snow on January, 10th! Our sweet little princess got her wish of snow on her birthday! It started snowing sometime during the night before the 10th and she woke up to 1 1/2 to 2 inches of a fluffy white snow blanketing the ground and snow still coming down pretty steadily. By the time it stopped snowing later that afternoon there was about 4 inches on the ground. That was followed up by a night of freezing rain that put a lovely 1/4" ice sheen over everything. She was so tickled. We were so glad that she was treated to such a special day. We make a snow wall and made snowballs to ambush Daddy when he came home from work (which was sadly too late for us to actually have a snowball fight). The all made snow angels and pulled the sled around our yard, and did a little sledding on the neighbors hill across the street. I wish I had the camera with me for Katherine's first sledding run of the season. She went down in the sled with me and we were met with a cold wave of snow back in our faces. When we finally stopped almost at the other neighbors yard, Katherine was not too happy with me. She turned around to face me with a completely snow covered face. She declared that she was done riding on the sled with me. Her next couple of runs were solo before she agreed for one last run with me.

As it turned out several other kids/people we know that share her birthday were just as tickled to have snow falling on their special day, too. What a perfect way to spend a birthday!
