The girls have both been enjoying gymnastics at Carolina Star since school started in August. This winter they had an Olympian event where the kids were able to preform their skills and receive a trophy for participating. They rotated through the various areas similar to how they would in a gymnastics event. At the end there was a showcase of arial dancing and the big kids that actually compete. All of the younger kids were all very excited to see where their skills can take them if they keep up the hard work. It was a lot of fun.
Katherine's favorite is the beam where she has ZERO fear. The bars are a close second for her. She likes to pretend that she can't do some of the skills sometimes just for the extra time with the teacher. The little kids normally are in the little gym so this was a very big deal for them to be in the big gym.
Elizabeth loves the bars and floor. I think she'd spend all class on the bars if she could. The beam is very intimidating to her and it has been amazing to see her balance and confidence grow. During class they have beams at different heights and Elizabeth always chooses the lowest one. It was a very big and scary thing for her to perform on the highest beam at the event.At the end of the event they were all so cute with their little trophies, but I think they expected the big trophies like the ones in the waiting area. I told both of them if they keep working hard they can make the competitive team and compete to win trophies like those. They both seems to like that idea. We shall see how that goes.
